Founders love to dream about the upside. Investors price downside.
In #deeptech, ambition is not rewarded with a higher valuation. Instead, unresolved risk is the main driver of discounting. The multiple goes up when the company shows disciplined R&D spend, a team with both technical and commercial depth, a defensible moat, clean #IP assignment, and a use-of-funds plan tied to concrete milestones. It goes down fast when the company looks like pure academia, burns cash in the wrong places, inflates #valuation based on irrelevant TAM/SAM/SOM, or sells a thin application layer as proprietary #technology.
A high valuation is not won by a better pitch. It is earned by removing the reasons to say no.
